Vedic meditation for stress and burnout
When you’re running on empty, more effort isn’t the answer. Vedic meditation gives your body a very deep rest, 20 minutes twice a day, and helps your nervous system shift out of chronic “fight-or-flight” mode. Over time, many people feel calmer, clearer and more like themselves again.
My own story
I spent three decades in the fast pace of fashion, fifteen years of it running my own label. After experiencing trauma, I was later diagnosed with generalised anxiety disorder and PTSD, and I suffered from insomnia. I know what it’s like to be completely exhausted and still unable to switch off.
When I was facing real burnout from overwork and too little sleep, Vedic meditation was a very gentle support. It was the first thing that didn’t ask me to try harder. Over time, with this practice and the support of professional care, I recovered.
Signs you may need deeper rest
- You feel “on” all the time, even when you stop
- You’re tired but wired, and struggle to fall or stay asleep
- You feel anxious, overwhelmed or easily irritated
- Your creativity and motivation have dried up
- You rely on caffeine to get through the day
How Vedic meditation helps
Rest is the antidote to stress, and Vedic meditation provides a very deep rest. Sitting comfortably with your eyes closed, you use a personal mantra effortlessly, and the mind settles beyond active thought while the body rests. Regular practice helps shift your nervous system out of “fight-or-flight” mode, can lower stress hormones such as cortisol, and over time releases accumulated stress and fatigue.
There is nothing to focus on and nothing to control, so it works even when your mind is busy. At 20 minutes, twice a day, it fits into a full life, and many people find the rest of their day becomes easier.
Alongside professional care
Vedic meditation works well alongside medical and psychological care. If you’re experiencing burnout, anxiety or depression, please keep seeing your doctor or therapist.
